If you’ve already sorted your student accommodation for next year, then you have a long, peaceful summer to enjoy while you wait to start or return to university. Although, three months off with no responsibilities might sound great, it could get boring fast if you don’t actually do anything with this time! Here are five things that every single student should do this summer before they start their next term at university.
Go To a Festival
Festivals are now more popular than ever before, with thousands happening up and down the country over the summer. Of course, you have massive, world renowned festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds, V Fest, Download and Isle of Wight Festival, but there is also a swathe of smaller festivals that cater to every budget and taste. Shambala, Nass, Boardmasters, Lovebox, Tramlines, and Field Day are all cheaper, lower capacity festivals that still draw big artists. If music isn’t really your thing, there are also plenty of festivals across the UK that celebrates everything from beer to food to art or even vintage camper vans!
Travel
This is a pretty obvious one, but getting out of the country is a great experience, especially when you probably won’t have this much time off again for a while once you leave university. You could choose to do the obligatory uni student backpack holiday and explore exotic locations such as India, Nepal or Peru. With backpacking holidays becoming so popular, you can find great cheap deals so you don’t have to break the bank to see the world. If you enjoy partying more than exploring, there are hundreds of destinations that are perfectly catered to the student crowd, such as the ever popular Ayia Napa and Ibiza.
Learn a New Skill
While festivals and travelling are great experiences, you should also use your summer to learn something new. As you will have a lot of time on your hands, this is the perfect opportunity to try and get into a new hobby. Learning an instrument, trying out a new sport or building something could be one of the most rewarding things you do this summer, and won’t make you feel like you’ve wasted your time lazing about.
Get Some Work Experience
Nothing looks better on a CV than actual work experience, not even a top degree classification. Even if it is completely unrelated to your chosen degree, getting a part time job over the summer is a great way to bolster your experience. Volunteering is one of the best ways to do this, and it shows that you are motivated to work hard even when there is no financial benefit to yourself.
Binge Watch Some Great Tv Series
Sometimes you might not want to do anything more than sit around and do nothing, and summers while at university are the perfect time to do this. This is the best chance you have to catch up on all the great series that have come out in the last few years. Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and True Detective are all great examples of TV that can’t be missed!
